Dear First Grade Families,


While you are home for an extended period of time, we have put together some resources, both online and paper and pencil for students to do. Please know these are not mandatory for students to complete. However, we feel it is important to keep our students engaged in learning during this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s classroom teacher.


Below is a suggested daily schedule to help keep routines at home.

Writing Ideas

Narrative writing (Seed Story) Write about a topic of interest. Writing should include a clear beginning, middle, and end. Remember to use finger spaces, capitals, punctuation and transition words.


How-to Writing: Explain how to do something: make a sandwich, clean your room, play a game, etc. Be sure to include transition words such as first, then, next, last.


Opinion Writing: Write about something you like or don’t like. Use words such as I like, I don’t like, My favorite, I think, I feel and then support your opinion using the word because.

Math Practice

  • Practice addition and subtraction math facts to 20.

  • Practice counting coins.

  • Practice telling time to the hour.

  • Practice comparing numbers.

  • Identify shapes around the house.

  • Measure to the nearest inch items around the house.

Reading Practice

  • Practice reading first grade sight words.

  • Play memory with words, letters, letter sounds, etc.

  • Bake something and have your child read the directions.

  • Read, read, read!
